Roxy: The Scruffy Sweetheart

Roxy’s hair has a mind of its own. Her little face, though? Pure sweetness.

Her owner asked me to draw her scruffy little dog, describing her as the sweetest pup she’d ever met. Looking at the reference photo, I could see why: huge fluffy ears, tiny paws, and a gentle expression underneath all that wonderfully untidy fur.

For her custom dog portrait, I leaned into those flyaway tufts and oversized ears. I kept her body small and gave her warm, sparkling eyes, with pink spiral cheeks for a playful touch.

The best part was keeping that balance between messy fur and a soft, lovable face. Too tidy, and she wouldn’t feel like Roxy.

Her owner loved the finished portrait and felt it captured her little personality perfectly.
