Pie & Muffin: Angel & Devil

Pie and Muffin’s owner wanted a portrait of her two cats together, both looking towards the viewer with cheeky expressions. Since they wouldn’t pose for a photo together, I worked from separate pictures.

She also pointed out two details to include: Pie, the Siamese on the left, is a TNR rescue with a clipped right ear tip, and Muffin, the black-and-white cat, has eyes with a green tint.

One Calm, One Up to Something

Pie’s gentle gaze and Muffin’s funny ears were my favourite parts to draw. With one ear standing up and the other flopping down, Muffin already had quite a look.

Rather than giving them matching expressions, I leaned into that contrast. Pie looks peaceful, while Muffin looks decidedly more mischievous—a little angel-and-devil duo, without the wings or horns.

I placed one slightly in front of the other to give the composition a little story. They’re looking at us together, but I’m not sure they’d give the same answer if we asked who knocked something off the table.

The video also reached 22.4K views on TikTok within its first 24 hours. Apparently, these two make quite a pair, even if they won’t pose together.
